- ANNIE 1999 - The Movie (VOB)
Alicia Morton, Kathy Bates, Alan Cumming, Audra McDonald, Kristin Chenoweth
Disney makes this beloved musical more magical than ever with an all-new, feature-length production! Featuring an all-star cast and new choreography, this charming tale of an adorable orphan named Annie captures all the fun of the original, but adds an unmistakable Disney touch! For a young girl living a "hard-knock" life in a children's orphanage, things may seem pretty bad -- especially at Christmas. But feisty Annie carries a song in her heart and hope in her locket -- the only thing she has from her parents. One day, fed up with the dastardly Miss Hannigan (Academy Award(R)-winner Kathy Bates), Annie escapes the rundown orphanage determined to find her mom and dad. Her adventure takes her from the cold, mean streets of New York to the warm, comforting arms of bighearted billionaire Oliver Warbucks, with plenty of mischief and music in between! Filled with memorable songs and magical moments, Disney's ANNIE brings this heartwarming story to a whole new generation. And now you can relive the magic over and over again!

Gorgeous filming, practically pro-shot, a great complement to the MTV filming. However, lots of overexposure, so you'd better like the girls glowing white. Steady camera at a good angle, lots of close-ups. I like Becky's acting quite a bit. Her singing and dancing are okay, as long as she's not doing them at the same time. She doesn't bring as much energy as Laura to the role. Andy Karl is like, the prettiest thing I've EVER seen. He's gorgeous. He kind of gays up Emmett, which, who knew?

Pre-Broadway: Matt Cavenaugh, Josefina Scaglione, Karen Olivo, Cody Green, Geroge Akram, Curtis Holbrook, Joey Haro. Stunning production and sensational cast. Josefina as Maria was precious and an amazing voice. Karen was full of sass and perfection in dance and voice. Features elements of bilingual songs and script which add so much to the story. Beautiful production from top to bottom! Also includes 13 minutes (opening) from the 12/20/08 performance. A+

Yup, it's *the* Wicked video, and it's not bad at all. Constant spotlight washout
(i.e. Elphaba rarely looks green except in close-up).
Great shot of a preview performance, decent colours and sound.
Taped from the mid left balcony, one cover-up when Elphaba and Glinda are dancing at the party,
and the camera also wanders at other times as well. *WHAT* an amazing show.
The music is gorgeous and the acting is top-notch, especially the leading duo.

Kate and Kristy are fantastic. Some of the best vocals I've heard and good acting. Not much chemistry between them, but the performances are adequately enchanting individually. Fiyero's looks are easy on the eyes, but his acting, not so much.

Blackout during the sharing secrets scene, some wandering camera and blackouts during applause, but the usual standard-to-good quality. Eden's singing is breathtaking. Emily is okay. She's got a beautiful voice, reminiscent of Christina, and its nice to see her, but she doesn't really rock the house with Eden. Nor does Kristoffer, who is his usual pretty. - WICKED 3/13/08 (VOB)
Stephanie J. Block, Annaleigh Ashford, David Burnham, Miriam Margolyes, Lenny Wolpe, Cristy Candler, Ben Liebert, Steven Skybell.
Some parts are a tad dark and some scenes are a little shaky, but nothing bad at all, a really nice capture. Stephanie was powerful and very fierce. A-
VERY funny Popular- Annaleigh had lost her flower and looks for another in her shoe rack -“Hold on, I need to find it,” “I keep things in my shoes” / amazing performance by both

Lisa Brescia (Elphaba s/b), KendraKassebaum (Glinda), David Burnham (Fiyero), Miriam Margolyes(Morrible), Lenny Wolpe (Wizard), Cristy Candler (Nessarose), BenLiebert (Boq), Steven Skybell (Dillamond), Brian Munn (Witch's Father/Ozian Official u/s), Jason Davies (Chistery u/s), Katie Webber (Witch's Mother), Kathy Santen (Midwife)
Done in widescreen with no real obstructions and only a couple of very brief cover-ups. Lisa is great and a little more of a subdued Elphaba than most. David had a major lyric flub in "Dancing Through Life" where he ended up singing the same verse twice. A

AMAZING performance and chemistry. The acting and singing could not have been any better. Lisa was in top notch form. Annaleigh was beyond quixotic and the rest of the cast was just on fire.

Stunning capture of Kerry's first performance on Broadway. This was also Jayne's first returning to the show. David makes a great Fiyero and kinda sexy too! The cast gave great performances in welcoming Kerry! A+

Notes: Kerry is absolutely wonderful; her belt sounds strong and beautifully clear, particularly in 'The Wizard and I' as if it is completely
effortless for her. Her American accent sounds almost faultless to me and her acting has improved incredibly; she's become
so much more natural in the part and this might just be her best performance as Elphaba ever captured! A+

Stephanie and Annaleigh's first performance. Filmed beautifully, with transitions captured. Minimal shaking or crazy zooms. Kathy Santen is fantastic. Stephanie and Annaleigh bring a completely new energy. Stephanie's a bit too showboaty for this performance, and Annaleigh, by contrast, is so nervous she looks nauseous most of the time, but they connect very well, and Sebastian's abilities are vastly improved by having Stephanie on stage.
